With Butler: Anne Brown

About Anne

Anne Brown isn’t just an advocate for nature. She’s a force of nature. In her role as the Executive Director of Texas Parks & Wildlife Foundation, she has helped raised awareness and hundreds of millions in funding for nature conservation in Texas.

In the last few years, we worked with Anne on a wide-range of projects to celebrate and promote 100 years of Texas State Parks — from an ad campaign inviting first-time Park visitors to a benefit album featuring a diverse line-up of Texas musicians.

As part of our With Butler Series, Anne shared her thoughts on collaboration, being yourself and the value of humor and creativity.

In a word or two, how would you describe working with Butler?

Help us see the forest for the trees.

What’s the one thing you love most about your job?

That it’s not a job—conservation is my life’s passion, and I have spent 20+ years doing what I love.

What’s the most valuable piece of advice someone has given you?

“Always be yourself. Unless you can be a pirate, then always be a pirate.”

What quality do you value most in a collaborator?

Humor and creativity. They both help us look at challenges in a novel way.

Who’s the one person you work best with and why?

Rod Sanders. His passion and commitment to conservation philanthropy are inspiring, and his energy and enthusiasm are contagious.
